In honor of 700 followers, I wanted to take a moment to talk about how we got where we are now
I started JessofEarth back in 2016 as a small project to work on by myself. During my freshman and sophomore years of college, I kept a notebook and a few word documents I would use to write down entries about my thoughts, life, and just about anything else. They were sort of like pre-blogs in a way because I wrote in the same style and voice as I do now, but for my eyes only.
From time to time, I still like to write for my eyes only, but I started blogging because I really hoped that one day it would turn into something and that my voice would be heard by more than just myself. I love to share my thoughts and felt like I was bombarding my friends with my introspective rampages and thought writing and taking to a blog would be the best way to get my thoughts out without ranting to some poor listener for hours on end.
So that is how this blog was born. I made this blog to express my feelings on a platform where people could choose whether or not they cared to listen and that also connects me to a lot of like-minded individuals. But why do I continue to blog?
Well, the answer isn’t as simple as why I started. I continue to blog for a lot of reasons but the number one is catharsis. I find that writing is incredibly therapeutic and relaxing. It allows me to turn real life problems, thoughts, ideas, and questions into content that can be enjoyed, thought about, or discussed with a mass audience.
It makes me feel like the internal work I am doing is not just for me, but for a larger audience who can gain benefit from my personal growth and the things I’ve learned. I also blog because it feels special to me. I have a couple of friends who blog as well, but I really feel that this is my personal special thing because I really dedicate a lot of time to it and put so much of myself into it.
Everyone I am close to knows I have a blog and has been involved in helping me grow and improve my site in some way. Having this special thing that is specific to me has really helped me develop a sense of self and independence. Blogging is something I do by myself for myself and it is something that people don’t need to hold my hand through.
Last but not least, I blog because it encourages me to experience life in a new way. Blogging keeps me striving to do more. I have taken way more opportunities since starting a blog because I find that experience makes for the best content. So by having a blog, I am encouraged to make the most of my time instead of letting it pass me by. It has also made me appreciate the small details of things a lot more.
And I blog because of everyone who reads…because to know that even one stranger cares about the writing of some random girl on the internet, means the world to me.
Thank you for 700 followers and I can’t wait to create new content for you as I enter a whole new chapter of my life.
Jess~
