Ringing in the new year by introducing myself…again
Hello everyone!
Welcome to Jess of Earth. My name is Jess and I am from Earth as you could plainly see. I started this blog up in February of 2016, so I am going on 3 years here with my little corner of the internet. Although I started my site in 2016, it wasn’t until spring of 2017 that things really started to pick up.
It is crazy actually because, when I started, I used to be so afraid of the idea that anyone would ever find this and read it. I was so concerned about the judgment and what people might think and say. But now, I proudly promote every post on both my personal social media (@heyyitsjessiiix on twitter and instagram) as well as my newly created blogging instagram (@jessofearth —PS if you follow and comment that you came from my blog then I will totally follow back!)
So, spring of 2017 was when I made the shift from casual posting to holding myself accountable for making regular posts (and actually tagging them for people to find and read). I began with 2 posts a week, grew to 3 posts after a few months, then 4 for the entire year of 2018. Now, I am dropping back to 3 in order to focus more on quality versus quantity. However, we can focus on all of that in another post. The purpose of this post is for you to get to know me on a more personal level. If you have chosen to follow or if you are debating on following, I feel it is only fair that I offer an introduction.
My name is Jess. I am 23 years old (turning 24 next month) and I was born and raised on Long Island in New York. My favorite color changes often but right now I am really feeling yellow and red. I love plants, yoga, reading tarot, spending time outside, watching nature and animal shows, traveling, reading, writing, and learning new things. I have been told that I am the kind of person who is always looking to improve themselves and I totally agree with that.
I write because it is something that I have been passionate about since I was little, but didn’t realize it was passion I was feeling until I was a bit older. I really started writing a lot in 8th grade, then I fell out of it until senior year of high school and have been doing it ever since. The decision to make a blog was something that I had mulled over multiple times before finally committing in 2016.
I named my blog Jess of Earth because it felt right. I originally wanted to call it Jess Meets World because Boy Meets World is my favorite show (I even have a tattoo to prove it, haha). But something just didn’t feel right in that name and Jess of Earth stuck instead.
When I am not writing, I really love yoga. Although I had tried yoga many times in high school gym class, it wasn’t until college that I felt truly interested in trying it as a personal hobby. I even wrote in my journal freshman year of college that I wanted to get into yoga while I was trying to find myself. Now it has been 6 years and I am a certified yoga instructor and I want to get certified to teach children as well.
Growing up, another thing I grew really passionate about was music and performing. I did a lot of theater in middle and high school, but sort of fell out of it at college. However, I still have a great appreciation for Broadway (which is also really close to home) as well as singing whenever possible. I hope to one day post covers on here.
Another thing I discovered I really had a love for was traveling. Whenever I plan a trip to somewhere new, I get so giddy and excited. Seeing new places really lights a flame inside my soul that makes me want to travel anywhere and everywhere. Right now, I am really focused on seeing all 50 states, but I would love to travel out of the country within the next couple of years too. My dream trips in the US are New Orleans, Seattle, and San Francisco. Outside the US, I would love to see Fiji, Bali, Japan, Iceland, and Australia.
I think the most important thing about me is that I am always looking to learn something new. I ask A LOT of questions. I just want to be the person who knows a lot about certain things, but also a little bit about everything. Two things I love learning about are metaphysics and divination. I have a lot of crystals, am actively practicing and learning tarot, and I am starting to learn more about tea reading and palmistry.
I also love learning about animals and nature. Although I was a typical kid who grew up on Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, I also grew up watching a ton of Animal Planet. To this day, Animal Planet is one of the only channels I watch on TV. Steve Irwin was one of my inspirations growing up and he really gave me such a passion for saving the animals so that future generations can enjoy them. His family is also so beautiful so I continue to watch them in their new series on Animal Plant.
When I think of how I want to spend my life, I could see myself doing so many different things. My big dream is to buy an airstream, adopt a couple of dogs, and travel the country while blogging about my travels. I would also love to write a self-help/personal growth book because that has become one of my favorite genres to read.
I think that the most important thing about me is that I love sharing my passions and things I learn with as many people as I can. There is just something about spreading my heart and ideas around that makes me feel so good.
So, that’s me. If you want to know more, feel free to comment any questions (and if I ever get enough, which I doubt, I would love to do a Q&A in the future)
Can’t wait to spend this new year with all of you!
Jess~

Great post, feel like I know you a little better – especially Boy Meets World – great show! I tend to hid behind my pictures of places I visit so I think it’s really brave to put so much out there – keep it up!!
