April Showers Bring May Flowers

“April showers bring May flowers…and Mayflowers bring Pilgrims!”

The old saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers”. Despite it’s intention of expressing that the poor weather in April has some payoff, I feel it also says a lot about life. Broken down, the quote is trying to say, “Hey! I know rain sucks, but aren’t daisies just the prettiest darn things you’ve ever seen!?”

So let’s think of this in the context of life. Since the start of the year, I have been feeling a bit “rainy” and down in the dumps. I have felt a tad discouraged by circumstance and the way life is going. However, I understand that it is rain that makes the flowers grow, the grass greener, and rainbows present their beauty to the world. Therefore, despite the rain, I believe there will be beauty to follow.

Life may get hard and you may feel like the universe isn’t on your side sometimes, but just know that beautiful things take time. A phrase that I think pairs nicely with “April showers bring May flowers” is “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”

We can’t always sit and wait for the clouds to clear and for the flowers to grow, sometimes we have to plant our own flowers, water them ourselves and watch them grow. Sometimes the rain doesn’t stop when you need it to and sometimes you need to create your own beauty in order to encourage the universe to do the same.

And I believe that that is the reason for the rain in the first place. The rain is what helps us grow and appreciate the sun and the rainbows, and it gives us the courage to create our own beauty, even when the world around us is looking gray. Some of the best situations come from some of the worst, so there is always a reason to smile through storm and dance in the rain.
