Did It Work – Elf Face Mask Review

Winter is the time where my skin needs a little extra loving. Lucky for me, Elf put out a new line of face masks to spice up my pamper evenings~

E.l.f. Cosmetics has been one of my favorite cosmetics brands since I was first really trying out makeup in my early teens. E.l.f. is widely known for inexpensive and cruelty-free products that are usually very up with the beauty trends. In the past few months, e.l.f. has been catching the eye of beauty gurus and casual make up users alike with their new releases such as their primer putty recently review by Jeffree Star and their 16 hr. camo concealer which I LOVE because it is an inexpensive alternative to more expensive high-end concealers.

But today, I am stepping away from their makeup and into new territory for e.l.f., skincare and face masks. During my last little shopping binge on the e.l.f. site, I stumbled across a new collection of mini face masks to try out. At only $18, the mini pack offered 5 mini tubes of face mask (roughly 3-4 uses per tube) with varying capabilities. Before I go into reviewing some of the face masks individually, I thought I would share a few thoughts:

• I feel like you’re getting a lot of product for your money
• The multi-pack allows you to try out multiple masks before committing to a larger tube of product
• The products were not too harsh on my sensitive skin

The first mask I tried out was a black pore peel mask. I was particularly nervous about this one because my skin is super sensitive so I was afraid I would get a rash, especially because there was glitter in the mask. Plus, with countless videos online of people in pain trying to peel off similar black masks, I was nervous if this mask would be equally as painful.

Upon trying it out, I realized a couple of things:

1. I definitely should have used some sort of brush with the product
2. I did not apply thick enough layers in certain areas
3. I looked like Post Malone when I failed to pull the mask off all the way.

The mask wasn’t the easiest to apply and it was really tough to wash off my hands which make applying it a more tedious process. I also didn’t know what a “generous layer” was supposed to look like so I spread the product a bit too thin on certain areas of my face, which was clear when I went to peel it off.

The product peeled off pretty easily on the areas that I let dry fully and didn’t make too thin, but I had a lot of trouble getting thin areas to peel up and damp areas to come off. I was still able to peel-off most of the mask and it left my face feeling good, but I didn’t like how much was left behind.

I would give the peel-off mask 4/5 and a “yes, it did work”

The next mask I tried was the Marsh-mellow Soothing mask that is supposed to calm your skin. The mask was more of a creamy clay mask than I expected. With a name like Marsh-mellow, I was expecting it to have more of a glossy rubbery feel than a matte clay. Overall, I thought it worked really great and my skin felt super rejuvenated after.

I give this mask a 4.5/5 because it was easy to apply and wash off and didn’t hurt to take off.

I don’t have much to say about the last 3 masks except for the fact that the Gentle Peeling Exfoliant wasn’t really a mask but more like a face wash. The Hydrating Mask felt like a thick moisturizer and the clay mask felt pretty similar to the Marsh-mellow mask.

Overall, I would give the whole pack a 4/5 and would definitely consider purchasing select masks or the mini-bundle again. They were fine on my sensitive skin, gave clear directions for how to use and how frequently you should use, and the products are cruelty-free and offer a lot of bang for your buck.
