5 Movies That Will Get You in The Holiday Mood- Blogmas Day 14

I LOVE holiday movies. Freeform’s 25 days of Christmas is probably the best thing ever created next to their 13 days of Halloween. Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, I think a nice Christmas movie with a good message is enough to warm anybody’s heart! Here are 5 of my personal favorites (and some bonus honorable mentions for you as well because I can never choose just 5)

1- How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Okay, so this movie (or should I say movies) is a classic. I always try to squeeze this one in every year whether it be the animated or live action one. I prefer the animated one, but both are adorable (and can we just talk about how much Taylor Momsen has changed since her days as Cindy-Lou Who?!)

If you’ve never seen the Grinch, the story is simple. The Grinch is a Dr. Seuss story about a mean and grumpy, green, furry Grinch who lives on a mountain all alone and despises everyone in Whoville and loathes Christmas. Sick of all the singing and celebration, the Grinch decides to “steal” Christmas. Along the way, in true Christmas movie fashion, he learns the true meaning of Christmas. It is cute and simple and rhymey and has a lovely message.

2- A Year Without a Santa Claus

This is my mom’s favorite which means it has become one of my favorites. I don’t know why but this movie has always made me a bit emotional. It has a super cute stop motion animation style and it tells the tale of when Santa gets sick and doesn’t think he can make Christmas for a year.

In terms of the story, you can watch to find out for yourself, but all I can say is Mrs. Claus is the best and the Snow Miser/Heat Miser song is a freaking banger and it is on my top favorite Christmas movie songs!

3- The Muppet Christmas Carol/Mickey’s Christmas Carol

I couldn’t choose just one because I was brought up on both. I am pretty sure we had these on VHS and I played them to death around Christmas. They are just the standard telling of a Christmas Carol but with the Muppets and Disney characters, but it is so cute. For some reason, although the stories are more or less the same (I am not sure that the scripts are the same or not but they are overall the same), I still feel like I get two completely different experiences watching them. It doesn’t feel like Christmas if I don’t watch at least one of these.

4-Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

Did you know Rudolph is the longest consistently running Christmas special on TV? It is over 50 years old but still holds up great. I feel like it is a great movie with a great message that never really gets old no matter how many times you watch it. It is super adorable and this year, the live stage production came to my workplace and I am super jealous of anyone who got to go because I was out of town and couldn’t involve myself in the childlike merriment of Rudolph and Christmastime!

5- The Polar Express

I almost completely forgot about this one, but it is freaking amazing. Polar Express is by far one of the best Christmas movies to come out while I was alive. It has so many super sweet songs and tells this amazing story about Christmas and the reason for the season and the importance of giving and friendship and believing and it is beautifully animated and Tom Hanks is in it so it can’t be bad. Did I mention that this film is also so freaking stunning? I mean, look at those stills, they’re gorgeous!

I remember as a kid, I got the DVD for Christmas and it came with the bell like in the movie and I am pretty sure, 12/13 years later, I still have that bell somewhere. Such a good movie.

What is your favorite holiday film? I personally think there needs to be a few more Hanukkah films and maybe some more general winter films for people who don’t celebrate holidays! I love seasonal films and I am always looking for new ways to feel festive!
